Step 1
Choose your date, time and place for your wedding.Make an appointment to meet and discuss your requirements. A holding deposit of $100 is usually paid, to secure your ceremony date. The balance can be paid at the same time or any time after, but must be paid a minimum of 14 days before the wedding date.
Step 2
You will need to make an appointment to file the necessary paperwork.The Notice Of Intent to Marry form is to be completed and the signing in the form is done in the presence of your celebrant.
NB:You must lodge a Notice Of Intent To Marry, with your celebrant a minimum of one month before the wedding day. It is valid for 18 months. An authorised person listed or your celebrant must witness the signing of this form by both the bride and the groom.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED BY THE COUPLE
Born in Australia - your Original Full Birth Certificate. This can be obtained from Births Deaths and Marriages, in the state where you were born.
Change Of Name - if applicable
Proof of identity - i.e. Australian passport, Overseas passport and Drivers licence.
Born Overseas - your Original Birth Certificate and Overseas passport.
Previously Married - If either of you have been previously married; you need your Original Divorce Decree papers. This can be obtained from the Family Court in the State where you were divorced.
Widowed - If either of you have been widowed, you will need an Original Death Certificate of your previous spouse
Translation - Any documents provided in a foreign language must be translated into English and a Certified Translation Certificate supplied.
Age - Australian law does not permit a marriage if both the bride and groom under 18 years of age.
Witnesses.
Two people to act as witnesses over 18 years of age, must be present at your ceremony so as to witness your signing of the marriage certificates.
There will be three forms to sign on the day.
1. The marriage certificate you will be presented on the day.
2. The Official Marriage Certificate record for lodgement at Birth, Deaths and Marriages.
3. The official copy, which is kept in a book for your individual celebrants record.
Please inform your celebrant a.s.a.p. if the witnesses have changed, their names will be recorded on the certificates prior to the ceremony.
